Introduction:

 

With the increased levels of heavy and non-conventional crude oils in refinery diets, state-of-the-art catalysts need state-of-the-art Grading and Guard Materials to create the best working environment by mitigating pressure drop and eliminating contaminants.

 

The cycle length of a Hydroprocessing unit is typically controlled either by the catalyst activity (maximum allowable working temperature) or by the reactor pressure drop (maximum allowable pressure drop). Therefore, an optimum Grading and Guard Materials system is definitely part of the success of a catalyst load allowing its maximum usage.

Application:

Active gurad bed materials can protect the main hydrorefining catalyst further to extend the cycle life of the catalyst.

GM15 is a high void space active (Ni/Mo) bed grading material. It is a raschig ring shaped made for the purpose of providing a high void fraction particle on the top of hydrotreaters or hydrocrackers to either provide pressure drop relief, some filtration of impurities, and better flow distribution.
