Gurad bed materials can protect the main hydrorefining catalyst for hydrotreating or hydrocradking process.

HP guard catalyst  is a high void space active (Ni/Mo) bed grading material. It has high free volume, large pore and suitable surface area and activity. It is a raschig ring shaped made for the purpose of providing a high void fraction particle on the top of hydrotreaters or hydrocrackers to either provide pressure drop relief, some filtration of impurities, and better flow distribution.

 

 It is effectively used in hydrogenation reactor to remore the foreign-metal and resien and asphaltene impurities in the oil, make the easy coking substance to moderate hydrogenation, prevent the major catalyst from poisoning and coking, and prolong the working life of the major catalyst.
